I understand your approach. Even the legal path. I just don't know if it should be public before the final resolution or even any true actions.
IMHO if you are trying to have good relations with someone you should talk with that particular person and try to solve issues instead of talking about that to the public.
If you are going with legal path than instead talking about that file a lawsuit. And announce that to public.
But maybe this is only my approach.
@wod0bow
Concealing abuse, as a victim of it, is not really a good idea.
Last time GOS tried to privately raise the issue and discuss it, they were publicly humiliated and misrepresented. GOS is giving them a chance for forgiveness.
> lawsuits
I'd love to see that because courts believe in presumption of innocence as do I.
@stoneubi Suggesting apathy in the face of adversity is not ok. It does not work. What is going on is not retaliatory trolling, rather proactive, malicious harm. Meaning GOS is being attacked to kill it off, not to get a reaction out of the team.
This attitude of not holding people accountable is why the world is the way it is. Dont allow wrongs to go unaddressed.
They take part in this kind of discussion the same way a victim wants their abuser to face justice.
@stoneubi
It sounds strange because its a horrible thing to say. GOS is not unbreakable but its technical capabilities being impressive dont change the harm that people have caused GOS. What demotivates them is the attacks against them and you are explicitly giving advice that allows this abuse to continue. Do you see the issue there?
Only ~400k people use GrapheneOS at this time, but that will grow, especially with the Motorola partnership. But number of users doesnt make the abuse hurt any less. Many need this OS, as you claim, so you should be far more upset with the abuse it receives and help counter it rather than suggesting apathy as an option.
First of all, I am angered to hear about the bullying. You guys shouldn’t have to contend with that, what you are building to is too important.
There needs to be some other fundamental model for this sort of thing on Nostr. It should be up to us, the supportive community, to protect and defend.
There is no violence in these messages. Thats a horrible thing to say. Why are you name dropping one person out of the whole dev team? Why fixate on them?
The GOS userbase is nearing 400k users and growing. Wanting abusers to stop and/or face justice is not going to cause mass amounts of GOS users to leave as you seem to be implying.
GrapheneOS is a safe operating system, and a safe space. All are welcome to join the comunity as long as they are not trolls or criminals. I dont know why voure trying to subtly force the idea it is not a safe place?
@bonkmaykr You're rotting your brain reading endless conspiracy theories and fabricated stories about GrapheneOS and Daniel. You should find a more constructive way to entertain yourself than engaging in harassment towards an open source developer.
You're likely here attacking us because of the harassment started by YouTubers. It's an incredibly strange thing to bring up considering the history of the harassment towards Daniel which is mentioned in this thread. Same goes for Privacy Guides too.
@bonkmaykr It's extraordinarily how angry you are towards someone who doesn't know who you are and has never done anything to harm you.
Spending time on 4chan, Kiwi Farms and YouTube consuming harassment content built on fabricated stories and bullying isn't truth-seeking.
You can let us know when you've gotten over the harassment content you've consumed and are ready to stop being unnecessarily hostile towards someone you've never met. Until then, please avoid contacting us. Thanks.
@bonkmaykr
What awful behaviour to aim at people. Quite a lot to unpack here despite all the heinous words you have hurled at people you never met.
First, everyone is tired of being lied to, thats probably the only honest/accurate part of this message. Despite this, you lack self awareness in what the lies are and peddle them yourself. You are a hypocrite, whether you know it or not.
The GrapheneOS project accounts are managed by multiple people, yet you have made up this scenario in your head where its one person you dont like. Want to talk about lies? You have substituted your own reality.
GrapheneOS has not made any libelous claims, or defamation, or harassment, or whatever other lie you may try to make up. The evidence is clear but none of what you said is motivated by evidence.
The people who harass GrapheneOS are not competitors. GrapheneOS is not a business, GrapheneOS does not earn profit, and GrapheneOS does not sell products. Your attempt to twist this as an underhanded greedy tactic falls short when the abusers can be trivially verified to not be in the same realm as GOS, therefore not competition, and that GOS stands nothing to gain other than not having crimes committed against them.
You not using nor recommending GrapheneOS means nothing. Using GrapheneOS is not a status symbol and you do not gain or lose "privileges" by being a user or not. Again, they are not a business and you have no patronage to deny them.
GrapheneOS is fully open source software, nothing about leadership changes that. Open source is not a badge of honor to bestow or revoke, it is a legal term that you should familiarize yourself with.
None of this is born from ego. No amount of "youtube glazers" could change the reality of the situation.
Real truth seekers dont behave the way you do. Real truth seekers dont cuss victims out on social media because they hate that they are bringing abuse against said victims to light. You arent a truth seeker, you want an echo chamber.
Youre projecting about being spiteful and manipulative, and you have no such evidence to back that claim up.
Everything that follows about disbelief purely on the basis that 'GrapheneOS said it' is pretty self explanatory in how disgusting it is, I dont need to comment on it.
GrapheneOS has never asked for, nor expected worship. GrapheneOS never made any problem. You made this up, "truth seeker". You made all of this up.
Your behaviour is disgusting. Your lies are disgusting. You are part of the problem.
@HyperCommander You're welcome.
If you really want to run GOS on a compatible device, the current solution would be to sell your Samsung device and then buy a Google Pixel from the 8th, 9th, or 10th generation if you can afford it; if your budget is really too tight, you could consider a used Pixel 8a, which is the entry-level model of the 8th series, making sure it isn’t a carrier-locked model. The Pixel 8a still has 5 years of full security updates plus the current year, it’s worth it.
Otherwise, wait until 2027 for the release of compatible Motorola devices.
@draken I am not surprised he blocks you, he is doing that with everyone who is asking questions he don't like.
I hope a trail will force him to reveal where does the money come from and how he use it because for a non profit, GrapheneOS is a very obscure project and putting the light on it will be interesting and it will be good for the donators to have more transparency (I was one of them a long time ago, and I was ban the first time I ask to have financial transparency)

Yeah, that sounds like Whac-a-mole.

Is the download malware that leaks the pw datatbase in plain text? Is the signature known to av programs?

in reply to Insignificant Nagus • • •I guess you're using M$ Windows (otherwise you would have probably used a package manager).
If you still got the .MSI/.zip file, you can check the signature of the file like this:
keepassxc.org/verifying-signat…
(You can scroll all the way down for a simple hash sum check using PowerShell)
If it does match, your installer was legit :)

in reply to Team KeePassXC • • •Of course, there’s no full takedown until the domain is placed on client/server hold. That's correct!
That said, in practice, I rarely see any recovery once Cloudflare puts up a warning page. It’s usually easier for the threat actor to register a new domain.
The good news is that this domain has already propagated across most major AV vendors, and I’ve shared both the domain indicators and the associated malware samples with several partners and information-sharing networks (Quad9, GCA, GSE, etc.). That should help ensure any residual risk is blocked at multiple layers.
I'll set up some monitoring for both this domain and any future attempts to impersonate KeePassXC.

in reply to Jeroen Gui • • •@jeroengui : I very much appreciate your work, but, as a bullet proof proxy service, #CloudflareIsEvil - they're complicit to cybercrime.
Cloudflare warns for malware/phishing for a specific *URL*, not the domain.
A minor change in the adds (or a forwarding site if that is what these scammers use) would bypass Cloudflare's crap measure.
I never saw a malware/phishing warning while opening:
https:⧸⧸keepass-xc.com/index.php
Note: I understand that blocking https:⧸⧸sites.google.com for a single malicious page would be problematic, but that's rather due to the fact that Google Sites sucks.

Also everyone, if you must visit the page, at least do it in a private window or clear your history afterwards, so you don’t accidentally open it again later!

Then you really should take your product to the typo-safe domain name ASAP. Possibly leveraging current publicity.
